L.A. — The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of the United States of America announced on Wednesday that the 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2.
This brings the annual ceremony forward by approximately one week. March 10 was the day when the Oscars were held this year. A total of about 19.5 million people watched the show,
which resulted with Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" being awarded the award for best picture. This represents a 4% increase over the previous year's viewership.
A similar decision has been made by the Film Academy to begin the awards ceremony earlier than usual. In the same manner as this year's program
the Oscars will begin at seven o'clock Eastern time, which is one hour earlier than they have traditionally done. The Academy Awards will once again be broadcast on ABC.
As a result of the Golden Globes signing a new five-year contract with CBS
the date of January 5th has been chosen for the ceremony that will take place the following year.
