Pennsylvania Democrat Nadia Stepicheva, 38, is upset with Biden's immigration policy. “The problem is, I really don't like illegal immigration,” Stepicheva remarked. She believes that illegal immigrants should be permitted to work to avoid taxpayer funding for their care and housing.
Stepicheva said she has always supported Democrats and their programs, “But the last four years, I feel like it's getting too much in terms of money spent for immigration, forgiving all these student loans.” Voting for someone this November is a dilemma for her.
Biden also scores poorly with independents on several issues: About 6 in 10 independents feel Biden's administration has raised living costs. About 4 in 10 independents feel Biden's administration has worsened health care costs and international relations.
There are no situations where more than half of Americans say the past president did more harm than good, but the general feeling of harm is larger. About half of Americans believe his administration impacted climate change, voting rights and election security, abortion restrictions, and foreign relations. According to Republican Catherine Scott, who recently moved to New York from Florida, Trump's foreign policy is particularly alarming.
“I understand that some people really admire Trump’s ability to be a spitfire and just say whatever is on his mind,” said Scott, 30. Scott added, “I don’t think he has all the foresight to understand that might not always be the thing to do.” He cited Trump’s praise of autocrats like Vladimir Putin.
The best topic for Biden and Trump is job creation. Trump leads: Nearly half say his presidency benefited, while 36% say Biden's did. About half of Americans say Trump's presidency helped immigration and 4 in 10 think it helped cost of living. On every other subject, 3 in 10 Americans feel Biden or Trump helps the country a lot or little. Republicans benefit more from Trump's administration than Democrats do from Biden's, even on subjects where Biden has touted his achievements.
About half of Democrats feel Biden's presidency has benefited climate change or health care costs. 77% of Democrats think Trump's administration was at least somewhat bad to abortion regulations
but only 4 in 10 say Biden's helped a lot or a little, and a same proportion say it didn't. Some 8 in 10 Republicans feel Trump's immigration and border security policies created employment and raised living standards.
