Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland on Missy Elliott's first headlining tour (Part-1)

Los Angeles— A 24,000-square-foot facility outside downtown Los Angeles is where Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, and Ciara are filming the video announcement for a surprise tour.

The trio and Timbaland will embark on Elliott's first headlining arena tour, “Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience,” this summer. “Listen, I didn’t realize I never had my own tour,” Elliott smiles, clutching her tiny Yorkie, Fendi, in Gucci. My last genuine tour—consistent days—was with Beyoncé and Alicia Keys.

Though long overdue, the timing is perfect. Elliott, the forward-thinking artist, has been acknowledged for her musical, producing, composer, and other talents in recent years.

She got the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards and became the first female rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019. In 2021, she received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Her city of Portsmouth, Virginia, named a boulevard after her in 2022. She became the first female hip-hop musician inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

Getting those accolades, I feel like I've finally made it,” Elliott adds. “It feels great. Feeling blessed.” The rest of the world is catching up, says Elliott's longtime manager and tour co-producer Mona Scott-Young. “She’s always ahead.”

Busta Rhymes tells the AP in his green room that Elliott and he had never discussed a tour in decades of friendship and collaboration. He sings the opener and outro on her 1997 debut album, “Supa Dupa Fly.” They were inseparable long ago.

She rarely tours or performs. I comprehended my sister's silent thing, he says. You knew that if she did this, went to where she was ready to tour, it would be wild because Missy never played with her production. That was evident in her shows and videos.”

He stated that Missy will decline $10 million for a concert. That she controls her future without compromise makes her great. You must love her for it. She's an authentic artist.” Definitely not a nostalgia tour
