1793 Flowing Hair Large Cent: AMERICA With Periods

The 1793 Flowing Hair Large Cent with "AMERICA" spelled out with periods, known as the "AMERICA with Periods" variety, is a fascinating and highly collectible coin in American numismatics.

This variety is characterized by the reverse (back) of the coin, which features the word "AMERICA" fully spelled out with a period after each letter.

Designed by Henry Voigt, the Flowing Hair Large Cent features a bust of Liberty facing right on the obverse (front) of the coin, with flowing hair and a Liberty cap. The word "LIBERTY" appears above the portrait, and the date "1793" is positioned below.

On the reverse of the coin, the central design element is a wreath tied with a bow at the bottom. Inside the wreath, the word "ONE" is centered, representing the denomination.

Surrounding the wreath, the word "AMERICA" is spelled out, with a period after each letter: "A.M.E.R.I.C.A."

The 1793 Flowing Hair Large Cent is particularly significant as it represents the first regular issue of the United States one-cent coin, marking the beginning of the large cent series.

These coins were struck in copper and played a crucial role in everyday commerce during the early years of the United States.

Historical Significance and Investment Potential: Beyond their value as collectible items, these rare Bicentennial Quarters represent tangible links to America's history and culture.
